The New People - In conversation with Andrea Uptmor
Matchmaker Bookshop welcomes Andrea Uptmor for the release of her debut novel, The New People!
A searing and strikingly intimate debut set in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, about a newly married lesbian couple who move into a flipped foreclosure, unaware that the former homeowners are still living in the attic.
“In The New People, Uptmor moves through examinations of privilege and identity, extraction and gentrification, politics and parenthood, holding it all with a delicate sense of emotion that keeps this debut from ever veering into the territory of diatribe. Instead, Uptmor successfully balances the tender and intimate revelations about these two couples, worlds apart and yet sharing the same roof over their heads, with a sharp sense of humor and wry insights into the many ways the myth of the American Dream leaves victims in its wake. The New People is a carefully crafted story of what makes a house a home: the people that share it, to be sure, but also the community built (or not) around it and the many marks left, both good and bad, on the spaces inhabited.”—Shelf Awareness, Starred Review
Bad Words- In Conversation with Rioghnach Robinson
Join Matchmaker Bookshop in welcoming Rioghnach Robinson for the release of her debut novel, Bad Words !
A sharp and deeply felt debut about art, ambition, and the connections that both inspire and undo us.
Parker Navarro’s debut novel was meant to define his career - until critic Selina Chan’s blistering review made it the flop of the decade. Four years later, his new book is his shot at redemption; for Selina, reviewing him again is a professional risk she can’t refuse. When her second takedown ignites a viral feud, both their fortunes shift overnight. But as the literary world feeds on their public sparring, a quieter dialogue begins - one that challenges everything they thought they knew about success, sincerity, and each other.

It’s just what it sounds like! Storytellers using the art of drag to read books to kids in libraries, schools, and bookstores.
DSH captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models.
In spaces like this, kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where everyone can be their authentic selves!
OUR MISSION
Drag Story Hour celebrates reading through the glamorous art of drag. Our affiliate network creates diverse, accessible, and culturally-inclusive family programming where kids can express their authentic selves and become bright lights of change in their communities.
OUR VISION
We envision a world where kids can learn from LGBTQ+ stories and experiences to love themselves, celebrate the fabulous diversity in their communities, and stand up for what they believe in and each other,
Please note that this is a ticketed event. Tickets prices are a sliding scale donation with a suggested donation of $5 per family! All donations go directly to the artist and Drag Story Hour’s registered 501©3
